Our mission at Indivisible on the Ridge is to stop the rise of fascist authoritarianism in the United States and protect our representative democracy at the local, state, and national level.
We pledge:
- to be firmly committed to peaceful, non-violent resistance and civil disobedience;
- to educate ourselves and our community about the issues in government that directly impact our lives by providing information derived from factual sources, concrete data, and evidence-based science;
- to make and support decisions that are intolerant of hate, protect human dignity, and promote genuine democracy;
- to build community as a team, in collaboration over competition, with organizations in central Florida that share our values of respect, equity, and integrity.
Outreach: Our Blueprint for Change
Here's Indivisible on The Ridge's (IoTR) current plan to further facilitate change in our community. Please make an effort to prioritize these initiatives as best you can! We all have a part to play in bettering our community.
Initiative 1: Voter Education and Registration
From now through the November elections, IoTR is holding bi-monthly events to educate the community about "The Signs of Fascism" and register voters in Lake Wales. This demonstration is designed to help raise awareness about what it looks like when a country begins the descent into fascism, and provide people the opportunity to stop by, learn more, and register to vote. This event is likely to evolve as we get closer to the election. Factual resources explaining ballot initiatives and candidate platforms will also be made available closer to the general election in November. By providing nonpartisan (more on that later) information to those that stop by, we hope to empower the community to make informed decisions when they enter the voting booth. The most important thing in a functioning democracy is an informed electorate. These events are currently posted on Mobilize.
Initiative 2: Support Families with Loved Ones Abducted by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE)
While local food insecurity continues to be an ongoing focus for our group since this administration's first government shutdown... we now have the opportunity to help uplift Raíces Unidas! Raíces Unidas is a network of community members working to help support families experiencing food insecurity due to an ICE related familial abduction. To help take the "guess work" out of shopping for or selecting donations, a list of suggested foods to donate based on cultural staples the family requests is available under the "Raíces Unidas" header on our website. (But all donations are appreciated!) [We will provide a direct link soon! Pardon our dust!]
Initiative 3: Support Other National Grassroots Events in the Movement
Indivisible on The Ridge is a grassroots movement. Our team is made up of residents and local individuals who want to help bring change to Polk County, the state of Florida, and the United States. This requires networking and fellowship with our fellow organizers in America. There are many national organizations working to make change. Examples include: May Day, 50501, Women’s March, NAACP, ACLU, etc. As the work evolves, IoTR strives to keep our members informed of nationwide events in support of the movement. If our group isn’t directly hosting an event as part of a particular day of action, our team will provide you information about other events nearby and let you know if we're aware of others from our group planning to attend in support. Beyond protesting and voting, we can make change through mass walkouts, general strikes, and boycotts being planned by groups at the national level. IoTR will continue to track these nationwide movements so our members know how and when to join in solidarity with their fellow patriots.
